Vladimir Putin: The defense of the Motherland has always been sacred, and a clash with neo-Nazis in Ukraine, on whom the United States relied, was inevitable

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that NATO countries did not want to discuss security guarantees with Russia, instead starting the development of territories adjacent to the Russian borders. During his speech to the participants of the Victory Parade on Red Square, the President noted that in the conditions of the formation of someone else's military infrastructure near the borders of the Russian Federation, a clash with neo-Nazis, on whom the United States relied, was inevitable. As Putin stressed, Russia made the only right decision by giving a preemptive rebuff to aggression.

Vladimir Putin, during his speech to the participants of the parade in honor of the 77th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, recalled that Russia has always advocated the creation of a system of equal and indivisible security.

The President noted that at the end of 2021, Russia offered Western states to conclude an agreement on security guarantees. However, as Putin recalled, NATO countries did not want to hear the call of the Russian side.

"Preparations were openly underway for another punitive operation in the Donbass, for an invasion of our historical lands, including Crimea. In Kiev, they announced the possible acquisition of nuclear weapons. The NATO bloc has begun active military development of the territories adjacent to us," the president said.

He stressed that an immediate threat was being systematically created at the Russian borders. In this regard, the President mentioned the deployment of military infrastructure, the work of foreign advisers and the supply of modern weapons from NATO countries.

"Everything said that a clash with neo—Nazis, Bandera, on whom the United States and their junior partners had bet, would be inevitable," Putin said.

The Head of State noted that Russia had given a preemptive rebuff to aggression by making a forced, timely and only correct decision.

Addressing the servicemen of Donbass and the Russian military who carry out tasks in Ukraine, Putin noted that they are fighting for the future of the Motherland.

"You are fighting for the Motherland, for its future, so that no one forgets the lessons of the Second World War. So that there is no place for executioners, punishers and Nazis in the world," the president said.

He stressed that Russia remains committed to the love of the Motherland and traditional values. In the West, as Putin noted, such millennial values, apparently, decided to "cancel".

"Such moral degradation became the basis of cynical falsifications of the history of the Second World War, inciting Russophobia, praising traitors, mocking the memory of their victims, crossing out the courage of those who won and suffered Victory," the president concluded.

"The attempt to appease the aggressor turned out to be a mistake"

The President had previously dwelt in detail on the issue of Russia's desire to agree with Western countries on the principles of ensuring security in Europe and on the non-expansion of NATO. In an address timed to coincide with the start of the special operation in Ukraine, the president said that Moscow's efforts in this direction were in vain, since no one listened to the Russian side.

"The US position is not changing. They do not consider it necessary to negotiate with Russia on this key issue for us, pursuing their goals, they neglect our interests," the president said in an address published on February 24.

Putin gave examples from history related to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, recalling the Soviet Union's desire to delay this moment.

"We know well from history how in 1940 and at the beginning of 1941 of the last century the Soviet Union tried in every possible way to prevent or at least delay the outbreak of war. To do this, among other things, he tried literally to the last not to provoke a potential aggressor, did not carry out or postponed the most necessary, obvious actions to prepare for repelling the inevitable attack. And the steps that were finally taken have already been catastrophically late," Putin said.

As a result, the country was not ready to fully meet the invasion of Nazi Germany, the Russian leader stressed. Putin added that the enemy was eventually stopped and then defeated, but at a colossal cost.

"The attempt to appease the aggressor on the eve of the Great Patriotic War turned out to be a mistake that cost our people dearly. In the first months of the fighting, we lost huge strategically important territories and millions of people. We will not make such a mistake a second time, we have no right," the president concluded in his speech published on February 24.
